Tillsonburg Council denied the opening of a Bingo Hall in their town. But it wasn?t because they didn?t like the idea of one. The proposed site didn?t have adequate parking and after hearing from numerous concerned residents, the application was turned down. David Morris was one of the residents who voiced his disagreement. "I think everybody admitted that this would then push parking into the residential areas, a lot of which don't have sidewalks. I think that council recognize that this was not a good idea and that it was in the public's interest to turn the application down," said Morris. But the applicant, Robert Dowd didn?t think it was a fair decision: "There's a high residential area there and I think there was focus on the negative side of that. The positive side is a lot of people could walk to that facility and not take up any parking spots." Dowd is currently working on two other Bingo Halls in Woodstock and Simcoe. He?s not experiencing any problems with them and says they?re progressing well.
