A bench dedication ceremony took place for one of the original members of Woodstock's Accessibility Advisory Committee.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is honouring National AccessAbility Week.
A flag-raising ceremony took place in Museum Square yesterday morning, and there was a special bench dedication in Southside Park in the afternoon.
The bench is in memory of Donna Burleigh. She lived with Multiple Sclerosis and dedicated 20 years to Woodstock's Accessibility Advisory Committee, dating back to when it was first established in 2002.
She actively promoted the Certificate of Achievement Award during that time. The award is given to an individual, group, or agency that has made a significant contribution to eliminating barriers to persons with disabilities. Burleigh passed away in 2023, and the award has since been renamed to Donna Burleigh Accessibility Achievement Award.
National AccessAbility Week shines a light on the important contributions of Canadians with disabilities and those who are dedicated to making communities more accessible.
