Climb COVID Canada is a national campaign to support our local food banks. The amount of people using food banks is surging every day and the need for donations has never been greater.
CANADA - More and more Canadians are relying on Food Banks to help feed their families right now.
The Daily Bread in Toronto, one of the Provinces biggest Food Banks has noticed a 53% spike in users over the past month. With this in mind, CLIMB Hamilton has started a national campaign to help support Food Banks all across the County.
According to Food Banks Canada, they are anticipating a "surge" in demand for food over the next two to four weeks as the novel coronavirus pandemic rages on. Food Banks Canada directly supports 650 food banks and FBC CEO Chris Hatch announced they will need roughly $150 million to support the current level of the public’s use of food banks for 90 days.
Brian Humphrey is the Founder of the Climb COVID Canada challenge and says he wants to ensure that our food banks have enough food on their shelves for anyone in need.
"Due to COVID-19, our 14th annual stair climb event in Hamilton, Ontario that was scheduled for May was canceled. However, we still wanted to do something, while focusing our energy on helping as many people as possible. From this we created the Climb COVID Canada campaign, a fun, national challenge to step up together as Canadians and to make as much of a difference as possible in these challenging times."
CLIMB COVID Canada officially launched nationally on Tuesday, April 7th. This online campaign by CLIMB Hamilton supports Food Banks Canada and encourages Canadians to take up a “climb” challenge at home, share a short video across their social media, nominate five friends and donate.
You can find more information on this campaign online here.
Check out the full interview with Brian Humphrey as he explains why they are asking for monetary donations right now and how crucial it is to support our food banks right now in these trying times.
