Elder Abuse Day is here to remind people about the importance of supporting those in our elderly population.
Elder Abuse Day is upon us, and it's a day to remember and promote the well-being of the elderly in our population.
Shaylyn Jackson, the Community Service Officer with the Woodstock Police Service, says Elder abuse can take many forms from physical to financial and there is a variety of resources available.
"Elders are a vulnerable population in our community. It's a day to bring forward awareness and educate people about Elder abuse, and what services and resources are available to them."
In Oxford County, there's a variety of resources from asking simple questions to reporting. You can visit online resources, reach out to the Oxford County Elder Abuse Organization or to the WPS Special Victims Unit. Elder Abuse Day is officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly.
Anyone who was a case of suspected Elder Abuse should contact the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323 or Crime Stoppers.
