The Woodstock Navy Vets are set to open their home portion of the schedule for the 24-25 PJHL season.
WOODSTOCK - The weather may still be warm, but regular-season hockey is here.
The 2024-25 Provincial Junior Hockey League's season begins tonight, and the Woodstock Navy Vets take to the ice. Head Coach, Darren Young says there is excitement in the air.
"It should be exciting. Another year here, obviously Dorchester coming into our loop now. It will kind of be interesting to see how they are, and how they acclimate themselves to our division."
Young adds he was happy with how the team looked in the preseason, as they were able to beat Grimsby 2-1 and then have a huge offensive breakout against Thamesford. He is excited about how the team is looking heading into the regular season.
"I like what we've done. We lost a couple of defencemen to age, but we have done a really good job of replenishing there, adding a few big pieces back there, so I really like our d-core."
Young mentions they added some veteran overage forwards, who are point-per-game players, and the goaltending is the same as last year.
The home opener will have free admission for the fans tonight and donations will be accepted for the Terry Fox Foundation. The puck drop is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
