Over 250 teddy bears were thrown onto the ice last year, this year the team hopes to collect even more.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Navy Vets invite the community to come support local organizations tonight with the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

This Friday at the Southwood Arena the Vets will fight for their spot in the standings as their tied for 3rd place with Norwich, Wellesley and Paris. They all have 30 points and all teams have played tightly contested hockey this season. Last year the Navy Vets collected 250 teddy bears when the lamp was lit by number 17 Justin Vandendool. General Manager of the Navy Vets Rob Inscoe says its a good way to motivate the team.

"It's an annual event, I think our kids take pride in the fact that they need to put a puck in the back of the net to get those teddy bears to fly. We've had a great response from the community in the past. Hopefully they can do the same this again again, have a good crowd on hand and help some kids with a little Christmas cheer."

Inscoe also added that he hopes the community shows.

"Hopefully the community comes out and supports the Vets and the teddy bear toss and cheers our team on to victory."

The game tomorrow night is against the Delhi Travellers at 7:45 p.m but it's suggested that you get there early as the Vets have scored the first goal for this event early more then once.

The Navy Vets get set to take on their biggest rival in the Norwich Merchants as its the battle of Highway 59. That game also starts at 7:45 p.m.
