Norwich Township is dedicating an extra $80,000 to volunteer firefighter wages in 2018.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Norwich Township Council has approved an operating budget of just over $8.6 million for 2018.
They've also given the green light to a levy of $5.795 million; a 1.92 percent increase when compared to last year.
CAO Clerk Kyle Kruger says they're setting aside more funds for volunteer firefighter wages.
"We've seen a significant increase in the number and length of calls on average over the past couple of years so we had to adjust the budget approximately $80,000 to account for those increased costs we've seen over the last couple of years."
Kruger says they're also spending more on law enforcement.
"We had some increase in OPP policing costs, not large on a percentage basis. They're budget increase is only 1.43 percent but that's a $20,000 impact for the municipality."
The township is also going to continue their four year plan to dedicate an extra $20,000 a year to municipal drain construction.
