There won't be any mishaps with a County credit card in the future. Oxford County is set to adopt a new Code of Conduct and Expense Policy today. The new rules will make it clear what is expected of staff and councillors when it comes to ethical behaviour, and claiming expenses. Warden Don McKay tells Heart FM it's about making sure the rules are black and white. "It's not like we haven't had one (Code of Conduct), but again, clarity prevents misunderstandings, problems and uncomfortable situations. So that's the first and foremost of that, is to provide clarity." McKay says some of the rules that may have been question previously have been clarified under the new expense policy. "Especially for council...when you go to a conference, there's no per diem. You're going on your own time, the same as an employee would as part of their job. Just eligible expenses with receipts." McKay says the new rules are also aimed at making the County an "employer of choice". "Part of encouraging employee attraction and retention is having clear policy behind that."
