New Dog Licensing Laws Next Year

Residents in Norwich Township can purchase dog tags at a reduced fee until March 30th.

NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Norwich Township is implementing a new dog licensing enforcement strategy.

CAO Kyle Kruger explains the biggest change in the by-law.

"We set a deadline for March 31st for a reduced fee period, so that is slightly earlier than it had been in years prior to 2017 and we want everyone to be aware that the fee's do go up on March 31st."

The by-law states that you need to purchase a dog license every year and you are allowed a maximum of 2 dogs in a settlement area and a max of 3 dogs in rural areas. The bylaw also provides provisions for dangerous dogs, or dogs that pose a threat to humans and other animals. It enhances the definition and requirements for kennels, includes that any number of dogs in excess of 3 dogs requires a kennel license.

Kruger says they will be sending out information packages to residents in the New Year.

"One is a bulk flier to all of the residents in the Township, the other is the inclusion of the information in our annual township newsletter that goes out with the tax bill."

The information will be sent to residents in January.
