The County was able to create 48 new jobs after approving the 2022 operating budget.
OXFORD COUNTY - The 2022 operating budget for Oxford County included the creation of 48 new jobs.
CAO Michael Duben says most of these jobs are funded by the province, including 17 jobs for community paramedicine.
"One of the main areas of job creation is Paramedic Services, we are really fortunate for 2022 because the province is funding us for something called Community Paramedicine and that is going to give us 12 full time jobs and 5 temporary jobs. The 12 permanent ones will be here for at least 3 years. Community Paramedicine is a group of individuals who are trained to work with people with high intensity health care needs. So the intent here is to reduce the number of people who have to get into an ambulance and go to the hospital."
The province is also providing funding to hire more staff at the three Woodingford Lodge locations in Oxford County.
Duben notes, anytime you can add and create more jobs in the community, it is a good thing.
"When you start adding jobs, it just adds to community growth, it means more people who will visit retailers, personal shops, it creates more economic activity in the community."
The County also created a few new positions, including a new Diversity and Safety Wellbeing Coordinator. Duben explains the need for this position.
"I think that most people would agree that Oxford is changing as a community, there is no doubt over the past couple of years with the growth spurt, not everyone buying a home in Oxford County is from Oxford County and we are changing as a community and one thing I learned a long time ago is that as communities change, it is important that they work together and that they understand each other and are open and welcoming."
