New Location, Right Zoning for Coffee Retailer

A zoning dispute brewing the last few months for a local coffee retailer is finally in the past. Personal Service Coffee re-opened this morning in their new Dundas St. East location, in the former Fabricland location. They were forced out of their old home on Ridgeway Circle because they were operating a retail business in a building zoned for industrial use. Owner Randy Hosick says this time, they're onside. "The zoning is proper. We had to get an occupancy permit and a building permit for some alterations that we did, but it went fairly smooth." Hosick credits their customers for encouraging them to make the move. "Our grand re-opening is Saturday. All we can really say is thank everyone for the support. I'm not sure we would have even bothered making the move if we didn't have all the support. It's really appreciated." Is there a lesson to be learned over the zoning infraction? Hosick says he would like to see something in place at City Hall to prevent other business owners from opening in an improperly zoned area. "I think there should be something in place at City Hall for something like this. Even now, I'm sure you could walk in and say 'Do I need anything?', and they would say 'no'." So I think there should be something in place to prevent it because it's a real pain to get set up and then move again." The move didn't come without consequences. Hosick was forced to sell his downtown brewing business to finance the move for Personal Service Coffee.
