New Masking Guidelines for Oxford Hospitals

Starting tomorrow, it's recommended that all patients and visitors wear a mask if they come into direct contact with healthcare workers.

OXFORD COUNTY - All of the hospitals in Oxford County have updated their masking guidelines in order to prepare for the respiratory virus season.

Officials at the Woodstock Hospital, Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, and Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll will be advising all patients and visitors to wear a mask whenever they're in direct contact with healthcare workers. This could be in one of the emergency rooms, waiting rooms as well as other inpatient and outpatient settings.

It will be mandatory for hospital doctors and staff to mask up when they're close to patients, but they can take them off in hallways, offices, and other shared spaces.

Kim Hobbs, the Director of Infection Control for the Woodstock Hospital, says this all comes into effect on Wednesday October 4th.

"As we are in the fall respiratory virus season, the health and safety of our staff and the community we serve remains our top priority. In order to address the challenges posed by respiratory illness season, we are introducing new guidelines. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the fall and respiratory virus season to determine if further changes are necessary."
