Jakeman's will be one of two companies in the world who can mass-produce maple sugar.
SWEABURG - A local maple product producer is expanding.
Jakeman's will be adding maple sugar to it's maple product lineup.
Vice-President Chad Jakeman says they will be among the top maple sugar producers in the world.
"There's probably only one other company in the world that can do it enmasse. We are one of two companies that can do this on a large scale."
He shares some of who they plan to market the product to.
"The main portion of it is to do a new product called maple sugar. We'll be able to do about 40 000 pounds a week of dried maple sugar. We intend to market this to starbucks and other high end grocery chains as well."
The new Jakeman's facility will be in Sweaburg.
