ONTARIO - New restrictions have been implemented at long-term care homes in parts of the province.
The provincial government is taking new precautions in order to protect residents and staff in long-term care homes.
Minister of Long-Term Care Dr. Merrilee Fullerton says these changes to keep residents and staff safe.
"The second wave of COVID-19 is hitting some parts of Ontario harder than others. We're making changes to keep people living and working in long-term care homes safe, wherever they are in the province."
Beginning this Wednesday, general visitors will not be allowed in long-term care homes in Ottawa, Region of Peel and Toronto.
The Province says only essential visitors, including up to one caregiver per resident, will be allowed to visit.
If there is an outbreak of COVID-19 at the home, direction will be provided by the local public health unit on further visitor restrictions and other measures.
There is a complete list of homes affected posted online.
The list will be updated by the Province as the areas with higher community spread change.
People who plan on visiting a long-term care home are advised to contact home ahead of time to make sure there are no outbreaks and to get information on the home's visitor policy and any restrictions.
As Ontario's experience continues to evolve, direction on safety in long-term care homes will continue to be updated.
The provincial government will continue to make every effort to support the safety and emotional well being of residents and the staff who care for them.
