Oxford's provincial NDP candidate is entering the municipal election in Norwich Township.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - A familiar face on the local political scene is running for Mayor of Norwich Township.
Tara King was Oxford's NDP Candidate in the provincial election this past June. Now she's looking to inspire change on the municipal level.
"Even though my political career has just begun, I have always had a passion to help those in need and advocate on their behalf. I feel that I have a lot of offer in the council chambers in Norwich Township as Mayor. I feel like I command a strong ability in communication, problem solving, professionalism, integrity and I strive to be successful in all that I do."
If she's elected in this fall, King would like to give the residents a voice.
"Our community needs to have a say. I plan to implement community boards for recreational facilities and we'll make decisions about what's best for our community."
King stresses the need for child care within the township. She would like to reopen a licensed child care facility in the Oxford County building on Tidey Street in Norwich in order to address this.
King is also open to promoting transit options in order to connect the communities. She says this will allow youth and seniors to participate in recreation across the township.
Other items on her to-do list include opening a walk-in clinic for residents and updating the community police and crime prevention strategy.
