The club will be hosting an open house from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. this Saturday.
NORWICH - It is an exciting time for the Norwich District Curling Club.
This year is their platinum anniversary, and they are hosting an event tomorrow. President Kate Hamilton says there is lots of excitement around the Club to be able to hold the open house and grand re-opening. She says when the event will start.
"It starts at 2 o'clock and so we expect the formal part of that, the presentation and some speakers to start around 2:15 p.m.. It will be open until 6 o'clock."
Hamilton details what you can expect at the celebration.
"So, we'll be talking to attendees about the history of the club, where it began, all of the improvements and changes that it's undergone throughout those 70 years, culminating with the single most significant investment into the club in its history with our new ice surface."
She talks about what changes have been made to the surface as well.
"We were a sand-based ice surface and now it's concrete. Along with that, we've changed our coolant from a brining system to glycol. We've upgraded our doors onto the ice, windows, all of our flooring, and carpeting. It's had an entire refresh, which we hope not only provides a more friendly environmental footprint, but it is a longer lasting system. I'm really looking at this as a legacy project for the club and ultimately gives us a consistent better ice for our curlers to enjoy."
Hamilton adds the new ice surface was made possible by a grant from the Ontario Trillium Fund. There was supposed to be a presentation with the Ontario Trillium Fund representative and Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman, but Hamilton says it will be moved to a different date.
Hamilton adds during the event, members of the club and any other community members in attendance will be able to hit the ice and throw a few stones on the new surface. She says there is no registration required and the event is free.
