Are you prepared for the possibility another Canada Post strike?
CANADA - Canada Post employees are getting ready to hit the picket lines once again.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers gave the Crown agency strike notice earlier this week, which could shut down operations and send 55,000 postal workers to the picket lines on Friday May 23rd. This would be after their collective agreements expire on Thursday May 22nd.
This would also be the second strike in six months for the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. The last one lasted 32-days during the busy holiday season in November and December.
Weekend work appears to be at the center of the negotiations this time around. Canada Post would like to utilize part time employees over the weekends, while the union supports a full time model that would move existing employees onto some weekend shifts. It's also important to note that the weekend shifts pay more with the current deals.
The union says Canada Post walked away from the bargaining table last week so it could come back with new comprehensive offers.
