Donations are being accepted for the Canadian Critical Incident Stress Foundation in memory of 25-year-old Zak Muise.
NORFOLK COUNTY - A local firefighter from Waterford has passed away while battling a wildfire in British Columbia.
Zak Muise was 25-years-old when his heavy-duty ATV rolled over a steep drop on a gravel road on Friday. He was working as a contractor with Big Cat Wildfire at the time, battling the nearly 6,000 square-kilometre Donnie Creek blaze.
His obituary posted on the Thompson Mott Funeral Home website states the following:
"Zak was loved by many. We are so grateful for the time we had with him. We are grateful for all first responders. Our hearts go out to all the families of fallen firefighters, first responders, and those left who are still fighting."
His celebration of life will be taking place at The Greens at Renton Golf Course in Simcoe on Sunday August 20th starting at 2:00 p.m. A public memorial will also be taking place in British Columbia to honour him for his service.
Donations are being accepted for the Canadian Critical Incident Stress Foundation. It provides support, training, and education for first responders, veterans, and their loved ones.
