Locals may soon have another option when it comes to getting their cash on the go. City Council has been asked to approve an amendment to their Special Shopping Centre Commercial Zone bylaw, so the Scotiabank at Springbank and Devonshire can build a new drive-thru banking machine. Mayor Pat Sobeski says based on the proposal, the bank would move into a new, free standing building as well. "It does fit into that corner of the plaza. It takes away about 14 or 15 parking spots that are on the end. But even with the removal of those parking spots, there is sufficient parking in that mall to service the mall." Should the plan be approved, it would allow for an additional one or two retail outlets in the plaza. The City's Strategic Planning Committee has recommended council approve the zoning amendments.
