A new $31.9-million elementary school is set to come to Woodstock, with the Ministry of Education officially approving the TVDSB issue a tender for the project.
WOODSTOCK - The Thames Valley District School Board has officially issued a tender for the construction of a new school in Woodstock.
Official approval was given by the Ministry of Education, with the construction of a $31.9-million elementary school and child care centre now set for 717 Knights Lane.
The current funding includes an additional $6.3-million from the Ministry to address cost overages.
Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, says this new project will be part of an attempt to modernize schools in faster growing communities.
"We are proud to deliver this critical expansion to the capacity of the new Woodstock Public School for local families, along with increasing funding, staffing and a back-to-basics focus on reading, writing and math skills to help ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in good-paying careers," says Lecce.
Woodstock's new school will have space for 856 students and will also include a five-room child care centre, which can handle upwards of 88 additional children.
School board Chair, Beth Mai, joined trustees in thanking everyone involved in the project.
"We are deeply grateful towards the Ministry as well as the municipalities and community partners who have supported the changing needs of this project. We look forward to welcoming students and families while celebrating future milestones with the community and everyone who has made this new school and child care centre a reality," says Mai.
Once the tender closes in late March, construction can begin on the school, which is set to be built and ready for the 2026-2027 school year.
Full details about the future Woodstock elementary school and other Thames Valley Capital Projects can be found on the TVDSB website.
