Originally the curling club in Norwich was planning to start in January, however after a unanimous vote from the Board of Directors, they have opted to wait until the fall.
NORWICH - The Norwich Curling Club has decided they will not be operating this season and will try again in September.
In October the Board of Directors voted to delay the start of the curling season unit January 4, 2021. Based on the latest developments locally and in the Province, they have decided to cancel the season all together. The vote was unanimous at the most recent Board of Directors meeting.
President Zach Burke says it wasn't an easy decision or a decision they made lightly.
"The safety of our community and membership is paramount to us. Although we had many safety protocols and an action plan in place to keep everyone safe; we firmly believe that we have a responsibility to the Norwich community to protect everyone from COVID-19 as best we can. Ultimately, remaining closed for the remainder of the season is the best way to do that."
Burke wants to thank everyone for understanding the difficult decision the pandemic has forced them to make for the betterment of the community.
"Thank you to all our members, volunteers, and sponsors who support our club every year. You give us the opportunity to provide the experience of curling & allow us to spread the love of the game and we are forever grateful for that."
They are already starting plans for the 2021 season this fall.
