Norwich Residents Concerned About Proposed Development on Spring Street

About 14 people have signed a letter to Norwich Township Council against a proposed development on Spring Street.

NORWICH - Residents of Spring Street in Norwich are not happy with a potential new development.

They have sent a letter to council regarding plans to build 24 lots in the area. Resident Ralph Erdman says the plan calls for Stubbe's Property Development to bulldoze several acres of forest land.

"The only way to possibly construct side by side housing is to clear cut trees, completely bulldoze the forest. This forest is a pristine example of a Carolinian Hardwood Forest, filled with Bitter Hickory, Sugar Maple Trees among others."

Erdman says the forest is home to several wildlife including migratory birds.

"It is home to at least three species protected by the Migratory Birds Protection Act 1993; the Pileated Woodpecker, The Red Headed Woodpecker and the Baltimore Oriole."

The area also houses bald eagles, wild turkeys, chipmunks, mallard ducks, turtles, toads, chickadees, robins morning doves, squirrels, finches and geese.

Erdheart says they have had zero public consultation on this development. He calls it an abominable travesty to flatten this forest for the sake of developer profit.

The letter has been signed by 14 residents on Spring Street and has been sent to Norwich Township Council. Erdman will be making a delegation at the next council meeting and we will follow up with this story at that time.
