Middlesex OPP says fatalities are up 37.5% this year, compared to this time last year. So far they have responded to 11 fatal collision investigations and 12 people have died as a result.
MIDDLESEX COUNTY - Middlesex OPP are very worried about a major spike in fatal collisions so far in 2020.
Fatalities are up 37.5% this year, compared to this time in 2019.
So far this year the Middlesex OPP have responded to:
- 11 fatal collision investigations on roadways patrolled by the Middlesex OPP. This is a 37.5% increase over the same time period in 2019.
- 12 people have died as a result of the 11 fatal collisions. This is an increase of 33.3% over the same reported time period in 2019.
- Middlesex OPP have responded to a total of 100 non-fatal/personal injury collision investigations as well as 634 property damage (non-injury) related investigations.
- Over this time period 147 people were injured as a result of a reported collisions on our roadways and unfortunately 12 people have lost their lives.
There are many risk factors that come with driving a motor vehicle. Some are within our control and some are not. It is the responsibility of the driver to operate the vehicle within the rules and laws of the roadway.
Police warn you should never get behind the wheel of a car if you have consumed alcohol or drugs, use all safety restraints, put down all the distractions, and never take chances.
