Farmers in the Dairy Capital of Canada want our local MP to know to they need his support to stop American Milk from coming to Canada.
WOODSTOCK - Members of the Oxford County Federation of Agriculture will be meeting at our local MP's office at 654 Dundas Street, on the same day that a massive rally is being held on Parliament Hill.
OCFA members will be at Dave Mackenzie office to request that our current government continue to stand alongside farm families in preserving the integrity of our supply managed sectors. Communications Administrator Amy Matheson tells Heart FM, farmers in Oxford County are very worried about the Trans Pacific Partnership and what will be included in it.
"There are concessions being made in allowing imports, specifically requested by the US to allow access into our market, when we are fully capable of fulfilling our own market with affordable, safe, high quality milk.
The TPP agreement is expected to be wrapped up this week and Matheson says they want our Federal government to know they don't want to see American milk imported into Canada.
"The TPP could have very strong ramifications in every county, but we are the dairy capital of Canada and the thought of Oxford being affected, I think should raise a lot of concern because of the number of cows that we milk and the number litres of milk that we produce."
Matheson says they understand this is Harvest season, however they need a large representation of farm families in Oxford to make the morning a success. They will be at Mackenzie's office on Tuesday September 29th at 11 a.m.
