Local History Day is coming up this Saturday and the Oxford County Library will be hosting in-person events at the Tillsonburg and Ingersoll branches.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Library is getting ready for Local History Day.
This will be the first time that OCL is able to host the events in person.
The 3rd annual event was created to highlight stories and moments that paved the way in Oxford and give the community the chance to explore and discover the roots of the county. Both the Tillsonburg and Ingersoll branches will be gearing up for the day.
Local History Technician in Tillsonburg Matthew Griffis says both locations will focus on stories that are special to their town.
"Some presentations will go deep into specific subjects, for example in Tillsonburg we will have presentations on the history of Dutch immigrants to the Norwich area."
The Tillsonburg location will also have displays from the Annandale National Historic Site, the Ingersoll Cheese and Agriculture Museum, and the Oxford County Archives.
Griffis added historian Laurel Beechey is giving a special presentation at the Tillsonburg branch.
"That presentation will examine the founders of Tillsonburg. Specifically in this case, we will learn about Nancy Barker Tillson and her story and contribution to the town."
The event is taking place on Saturday and is completely free to attend.
Doors open in Tillsonburg at 10:00 a.m. and in Ingersoll at 11:00 a.m.
