WOODSTOCK - The Oxford County Federation of Agriculture made a donation of $4,000 to Southwestern Public Health today in support of the COVID Food for Families program.
The program is run by the Ontario Student Nutrition Program with the support of the United Way of Oxford to assist families that are struggling to afford to feed their families during this time.
Administrator for the OCFA, Laura Fraser, said they were approached by SWPH's registered dietician Kelly Ferguson with hopes that they could support the program in some way.
OCFA President, Dirk Boogerd and OCFA Member Services Representative for Oxford and Elgin, Heather Derks, presented the cheque to Kelly Ferguson.
The OCFA board of directors were happy to help, and immediately decided a monetary donation would be the best way for families to receive the support from the program.
Boogerd said they wanted to help local families.
“We settled on this amount because we wanted to cover a bi-weekly delivery to help families in Oxford County to access fresh and quality food."
Registered families receive produce boxes and grocery cards every two weeks, which is delivered to their door by a team of volunteers.
Today’s delivery was accompanied by a garden kit packed in repurposed grain bags donated by OCFA directors and OFA regional director Tracey Arts.
