Solid weekend results for Oxford Attack basketball teams.
The Oxford Attack Under 14 Major Bantam Boys competitive basketball team won two of three games in a friendly tournament in Orangeville over the weekend.
The Attack opened the tourney against rival Orangeville Hawks #1 team and stumbled out of the gate, fell behind early and produced a season low in points losing 36 – 26. The Attack must eliminate their slow starts and team turnovers against competitive teams going forward. Callaghan Bullen led his team with 10 points.
The Attack next faced the Penentang Midland Magic and rebounded with a resounding 53 - 20 victory. Lucas Gagnon had 10 points while Ben Jentz had 6 points and is improving his rebounding snaring 7 boards.
The Attack played an inexperienced Orangeville Hawks #2 team in the tourney finale and came away with 61 – 30 win. Matthew Keith and Ibrahim Taha led the Attack with career highs of 14 and 11 points, respectively. Adam Bullen contributed 8 solid rebounds and continues to shine from the free throw line shooting 8 out of 10 for the tourney.
Next up for the Attack is another home friendly tourney in Woodstock at Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame on Saturday February 1st. The U14 Attack boys play at 9:00 am, 10:30 am and 4:30 pm.

ATTACK U12 GIRLS CONTINUE TO ROLL
WOODSTOCK: The Oxford Attack Under 12 Major Atom Girls competitive basketball team continued their current hot streak winning both home games in a mini-friendly tournament on snow filled Saturday in Woodstock over the weekend.
The Attack girls played a shorthanded but experienced Dundas Dynamo squad and came away with a solid 37 – 18 victory. The Attack played exceptional defense and shut down the Dynamo screen based offense. The Attack had balanced scoring throughout their lineup with Amanda Witmer and Logan Machin netting 6 points each while Larissa Bayliss and Jaime Magoffin had 4 points each. Beth Ewing and Ainsley Docherty played excellent defense against Dynamo guards.
The Attack faced a familiar local foe in the Tillsonburg Tornadoes in the final game and came away with a convincing 42 – 17 win. Emma Hagen-Johnson paced the Attack with 15 points while Alexis Birch had 5 points and Judy Seng hit a beautiful back shot for 2 points.
Next up the U12 Attack girls is a game in Alymer versus East Elgin Hoops in early February.

Brantford: On a cold and snowy weekend in January, the Oxford Attack U13 Bantam boys basketball team travelled to Brantford to participate in the annual Paul Mitchell tournament hosted by the Brantford CYO basketball club. As it turns out, the weather wasn’t the only difficulty for the young team.
Turnovers were costly in the first game against the Milton Stags, and the opponents capitalized on the opportunities. The end result was a 50 – 30 loss for Oxford. Ethan Roberts lead Attack scorers with 11 points.
In the second game of the tournament, Oxford faced a familiar opponent in the London Ramblers, a team they had beaten earlier in January. Head Coach Jerry Beckett stressed the need for good decision making with and without the ball, however poor offensive ball management and defensive collapses resulted in a 33-22 loss.
In their last game of the tournament, the Attack played the highly skilled Hamilton Wildcats. As before the opponents were victorious. Oxford did not advance to play in the semi-finals on Sunday.
One of the few bright spots for the team was the play of Jason Lee in the final game. While he did not register points on the score board, Jason did show some edge and determination; the kind of intensity required to play basketball at this level.
Thank you to the parents and coaches who braved the weather and poor driving conditions to travel to Brantford. Hopefully the team learned from their experience in Brantford, and will rebound in their upcoming matches.
