Woodstock will see the biggest upgrades in the County with $536,653 coming in for their transit services.
WOODSTOCK - The Ontario Government is providing Oxford County with funds to help expand transit services.
The funding comes from the province's gas tax program, which has been using its $379.5 million to improve public transit in 107 municipalities.
Ingersoll, Tillsonburg and Woodstock will all be receiving funds to go towards public transit services.
Woodstock will see the biggest upgrades in the County with $536,653 coming in for their transit services. Tillsonburg will receive $133,589 and Ingersoll is set to receive $55,595.
Gas tax funding can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade local infrastructure.
Ernie Hardeman, MPP for Oxford applauded Premier Doug Ford on his decision in Gas Tax Funding.
"Our government knows that municipal transit systems are essential to the success of our local communities, connecting people and families to jobs, housing and wherever they need to go. Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we continue to step up to the plate to provide the funding municipalities need to ensure transit remains a safe and reliable option in communities across Ontario."
To make up for lowered gas sales during the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 gas tax program includes a one-time grant of $80 million to help ensure municipalities can continue to support their transit systems.
