Ontario Chamber of Commerce Requests Bill 148 Delay

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has asked the Premier slow down the upcoming minimum wage increase.

WOODSTOCK - The Ontario Chamber of Commerce, which includes Woodstock and the Keep Ontario Working Coalition has sent a letter to Premier Kathleen Wynne.

In the letter they ask the Premier to slow down the implementation of Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act that will see minimum wage increased to $15 an hour in two years.

Starting next year minimum wage in Ontario will jump 23 percent to $14 an hour and then another 11 percent a year later in just over 18 months. This compares with the past 7 years where the minimum wage has only increased by 12 percent.

The State of California is taking five years to increase their minimum wage by 50 percent to $15/hour with employers of less than 25 employees.

Seattle has allowed for a 4-year implementation for a 36 per cent wage increase.

You can read the full letter to the Premier online here.
