Premier Doug Ford says everything is on the table when it comes to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and they are talking about the possibility of a Province wide lockdown.
ONTARIO - Premier Doug Ford says everything is on the table when it comes to slowing the spread of COVID-19.
Ford was asked point blank today if they would be sending the entire Province into a lockdown. He responded by saying that everything is on the table right now.
"The worst thing we could do is rush out there and make a snap decision in a heart beat. We have to make sure that if we do make this decision, is it going to be 2 weeks, is it going to be 28 days for a full cycle, so there are so many things to consider."
Ford was also asked if they would keep schools and daycares open, if we go into lockdown.
"We will make sure, as we did before that we will have daycare, I know the Minister of Education has put the schools on notice, so it is all hands of on deck, we have to be ready for anything and the trend is moving at a rapid, rapid fashion right now, so we are going to be ready."
Students have been told to be prepared to do learning from home after the holiday break. Kids are being encouraged to bring everything home with them on Friday.
Ford says they have a lot of things to consider before making such an important decision.
"If we move forward and we decided to do a further lockdown, there is a lot of things to take into consideration, there is education, making sure we have daycare, making sure the educators are ready. Making sure we have hotels for people who have COVID, so we can put them into hotels, instead of at home. We have to make sure we have something for businesses. We just can't keep going on like this for these poor small business owners."
Ford was also asked about the mental health impact another lockdown could have.
"We are seeing addictions rise right now, we are seeing suicides rise, domestic disputes, everything is going up, we have to measure everything."
