The Ontario Health Coalition says a mass citizen planned vote will be taking place across the province in response to the Ford Government's plans to privatize health care.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Ontario Health Coalition is fighting back against plans to privatize health care in the Province.
Although there has been a ton of public pushback on the matter, Premier Doug Ford moved forward on the contracts for the first three for-profit clinics set to open in Windsor, Waterloo, and Ottawa.
In January, the Ford government announced its intentions to begin offering for-profit clinics to Ontario, stating it was a pushback at wait times in hospitals.
Vice president for UNIFOR Local 636 Melissa Holden says that privatizing healthcare won't solve the problem.
"In the provinces that have already outsourced their surgeries, their waiting times are even longer than what we are waiting now in Ontario."
Holden added that private clinics can pose a threat to health standards.
"There's no oversight from our government, and no requirement to be transparent to the public. They don't have to do public reporting or disclosure."
The Health Coalition will be hosting a citizen-planned vote against on May 26th and May 27th. There are rallies being held today and If you are interested in attending, London is the closest rally.
