Starting July 1st, the affected licence plates will automatically renew 90 days before they're set to expire.
ONTARIO - You'll no longer have to worry about renewing your licence plate in Ontario.
Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria says the province is introducing automatic licence plate renewal for passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, motorcycles and mopeds.
"Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is making life more affordable and convenient for drivers. First, we eliminated licence plate sticker fees for passenger vehicles, saving drivers $120 a year for every car they own. Now, we’re saving drivers valuable time and making their lives easier by automatically renewing licence plates."
The affected licence plates will renew automatically 90 days before they're set to expire.
That's if the vehicle owner has valid insurance and doesn't have any outstanding fines or tolls to pay. If that is the case, the owner will be notified so they can go through the renewal process manually through the ServiceOntario website.
This all starts July 1st, making Ontario the first jurisdiction in North America to implement automatic licence plate renewals.
