A purposed landfill in Beachville by Walker Industries has citizens outraged, and they're going out across the County to drum up more support. OPAL (Oxford People Against the Landfill) was formed in April of this year to ensure the mega landfill doesn't come to Oxford County. OPAL has lots of support from the community including over 2000 people in the organization so far. The group has planned to go to councils all around Oxford County, and wants to eventually go make a presentation at the provincial level. OPAL is also set to host a number of town hall-style meetings across Oxford County. The first event takes place on June 19th at the Beachville Colombo Club. The proposed landfill by Walker Environmental would see up to 100 trucks of trash from outside Oxford County dumped there every day. If the landfill is built, as proposed, it will be the fourth largest in all of Canada.
