Those interested in participating in the local Operation Christmas Child campaign can pick up their shoeboxes at Connect Hearing, Enjoy Travel, or Movement Church.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is gearing up for Operation Christmas Child.
Lynda Plummer, a volunteer for the Woodstock campaign, explains what it's all about.
"It's a project of Samaritan's Purse, where we ask people to fill a shoe box or similar size box with small toys, personal hygiene items, and maybe a few school supplies."
Examples of items that can go in the box are a ball, skipping rope, small cars, small dolls, stuffed animals, pens, pencils, a notebook, or a toothbrush. You can choose which gender the box is for, along with the age range. The ranges include 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
Operation Christmas Child sends the boxes to over 100 countries around the world. Plummer says the boxes collected in Canada this year will be going to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, New Guinea, Sierra Leonne, Gambia, Ukraine, and the Philippines.
Plummer says there are multiple places you can go and pick up your box to fill.
"In Woodstock, you can pick them up at Connect Hearing, or Enjoy Travel, and also at Movement Church. In Ingersoll you can pick them up at Connect Hearing, and Enjoy Travel, or the Ingersoll Fire Hall."
This year, people are asked to pack at least one extra box, as they want to get the numbers closer to where they were pre-pandemic, as there was just under 1,500 boxes sent last year.
The boxes will have to be dropped off at Movement Church during the week of November 13th to the 19th. You can visit the Samaritans Purse website to find the drop-off hours.
Plummer stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday October 17th. You can listen to the full interview below:
