West Region OPP reported 19 commercial vehicle related fatalities back in 2017, the highest in all of Ontario.
OXFORD COUNTY - OPP are wrapping up their Safe Trucking Campaign.
Police across the province have been cracking down on commercial vehicle operators breaking the rules all week long.
John Cain, the Chief Superintendent and Commander for the West Region says they are hoping to improve the statistics in our area.
"In 2017, West Region had the highest number of fatalities in the province involving commercial motor vehicles at 19 and 80 percent of those fatalities occurred on days like today; clear and dry conditions."
West Region also recorded the most injuries in the province with 230 last year and 75 percent of those collisions also occurred on days with clear and dry weather conditions.
The top five causes of these accidents are as follows;
1) Inattentive driving
2) Losing control
3) Speed
4) Failing to yield
5) Following too close
Cain says a lot of transport trucks drive through Oxford County on a regular basis.
"In Oxford County because of the juncture there within the 401 and the 403, that intersection is one of the highest volume trucking intersections in the province because of the network of the trucks running for manufacturing."
