Since 2024, 10 cases have occurred in Norfolk, Brant, Middlesex, and Wellington Counties.
ONTARIO - The OPP are investigating multiple cases of extortion across Southwestern Ontario.
Since 2024, 10 cases have been reported targeting victims in Brant, Norfolk, Middlesex, and Wellington Counties. Over 50 cases have been confirmed from the Caledon and Dufferin detachments.
The extortion attempts involve phone calls or text messages threatening violence if a large sum of money is not paid. The callers often know personal information on those they contact.
Police have even investigated numerous weapons incidents where properties sustained damage due to gunfire. The suspects appear to be targeting members of the South Asian community.
The OPP wish to remind the public that if you receive a threatening call or message, contact the police immediately.
