The OPP have recovered $70,000 in stolen items and arrested two people after a two month crime spree impacting communities in Oxford, Middlesex and Elgin.
ELGIN/OXFORD/MIDDLESEX - The Elgin Middlesex and Oxford Brant Community Street crimes unit have wrapped up a two month investigation into a rash of property crimes and stolen vehicles in the West Region.
The crime spree has been going on since November, with several vehicle thefts, pursuits, use of stolen credit cards and multiple property thefts including tools, electronics and other goods.
Last week, the OPP located two suspects in a hotel room in London. They seized over $70,000 in tools, wallets, 10 garage door openers and number of other miscellaneous items.
30 year old Dale Walter Brooks of Thames Centre was arrested on the following charges in Elgin:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 under the Criminal Code.
- Theft Over $5000 from a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code.
- Failing to comply with a release order under the Criminal Code. (two counts)
- Use of a Credit Card knowing it was obtained by the commission of an offence under the Criminal Code.
- Trespassing at night under the Criminal Code.
- Prohibited Driving under the Criminal Code.
- Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. (two counts)
Brooks was also charged with 10 incidents in Middlesex County:
- Possession of an identity document under the Criminal Code
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 under the Criminal Code.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 under the Criminal Code. (two counts)
- Failing to comply with a release order under the Criminal Code. (two counts)
- Possession of a Credit Card know it was obtained by the commission of an offence under the Criminal Code.
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order contrary to the Criminal Code.
Brooks was also charged in relation to 12 incidents in Oxford County:
- Oxford County OPP charges relating to twelve (12) incidents;
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 under the Criminal Code. (four counts)
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code. (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 under the Criminal Code. (four counts)
- Failing to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code. (three counts)
- Prohibited Driving under the Criminal Code. (4 counts)
- Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
- Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code
24 year old Shayla Nicole Hanna was also arrested in relation to 10 incidents in Middlesex County:
- Possession of an identity document under the Criminal Code
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 under the Criminal Code.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 under the Criminal Code. (two counts)
- Possession of a Credit Card know it was obtained by the commission of an offence under the Criminal Code.
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order contrary to the Criminal Code. (two counts)
HANNA has been released on a recognizance pending a future court date.
