Ontario Provincial Police disappointed with the final results from the 2014-2015 Festive RIDE campaign results.
OXFORD COUNTY - OPP say they are disappointed with the final results of the annual Festive RIDE campaign.
Across Ontario, police laid 593 impaired charges and issued 485 warn range suspensions between November 24, 2014 and January 2, 2015 . One person was killed in an impaired-related collision on December 20th.
When compared to the 2013-14 Festive RIDE campaign, the numbers are almost unchanged with 587 impaired charges being laid last year and 504 warn range suspensions being issued. Three people lost their lives to impaired-related road crashes during the 2013-14 campaign.
OPP conducted more that 8,000 RIDE check stops throughout the province but say these enforcement efforts alone are not enough to eliminate impaired driving and the threat it poses to the lives of innocent people. In their media release, the OPP say they count on all citizens to be valued road safety partners and intervene when they suspect that someone is driving or about to drive after consuming alcohol or drugs.
OPP went on to thank and recognize the many Ontario drivers who did not drive over the holidays while impaired by drugs or alcohol and thanked those who volunteered to be a designated driver, offered to put a guest up for the night or called them a cab after they had been drinking, called 911 to report an impaired driver to police or took some other action that assisted in taking an impaired driver off the road.
