The Oxford OPP will be on the lookout for distracted drivers, speeders, impaired drivers and people not wearing a seat belt this long weekend.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford OPP will be out in full force this Labour Day long weekend.
They will be targeting the so called Big Four deadly driving behaviours. This includes distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
Police will also be patrolling local waterways and trails.
The latest statistics from the OPP are sobering. Already this year 176 people have died in 166 fatal collisions on OPP-patrolled roads. Many of the collisions were preventable and can be attributed to poor driving.
Among the fatalities, 47 involved excessive speed and 33 were attributed to an inattentive driver. Lack of driver and passenger seatbelt use has contributed to 29 deaths, while alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in 22 of this year's road fatalities.
