Oxford County currently does not have any active cases of the virus after the Health Unit confirmed 1 new case today and 3 recoveries. They also confirmed a staff member at the Caressant Care in St. Thomas has tested positive.
OXFORD/ST.THOMAS/ELGIN - Southwestern Public Health is reporting one new case of the virus today and three new recoveries.
One of the recoveries is in East Zorra-Tavistock, meaning we currently don't have any active cases of the virus in Oxford County. Here is the breakdown of numbers according to Southwestern Public Health:
Central Elgin - 1
St. Thomas - 3
To date we have had five institutional outbreaks at Long Term Care Homes. We currently have one active outbreak at the Caressant Care on Mary Bucke Nursing Home in St. Thomas after a staff member tested positive. 5 people from the region have died from the virus.
The number one symptom that has led to a positive test in the region is a cough, followed by a fever. Other symptoms that have resulted in positive tests include fatigue, headache, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion just to name a few. 17% of people who have tested positive in our region were asymptomatic. We currently do not have any COVID-19 patients in the hospital.
