The Oxford County Animal Rescue currently has about 75 animals in its care with over 40 of them up for adoption.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Animal Rescue is bursting at the seams.
Foster Coordinator Anna Holmes says animal rescues across North America are at capacity.
"It really is starting to become overwhelming for some rescue groups. They have stopped taking intakes, while we have slowed our intakes down. Right now we have about 75 animals in our care with the need every day, all day long."
Over 40 of those animals are currently up for adoption including the 35 cats/kittens, three dogs, and two bunnies listed on their website. You can read more about the animal adoption procedures online here.
The rescue is in desperate need of more fosters to help care for all of these animals before they find their forever homes. You can read more about the requirements for fosters and fill out an application form online here.
Holmes says no one really knows the exact reasoning behind the surge in animal surrenders, but she has a few theories.
"I think we have some COVID fallout going on. I think people are financially not in a position anymore to care for their animals because the cost of living has gone up."
Holmes called the Heart FM studio for her monthly chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday August 2nd. You can listen to the full interview below:
