The Oxford County Archives is offering pioneer kits so kids have something fun to do this Spring Break.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Archives is inviting families to travel back in time this year for Spring Break in April.
They have created pioneer kits to keep kids busy during the week off. Archives Technician Megan Lockhart explains what will be in some of the kits.
"Each kit includes activity pages, word games, colouring pages, a pioneer recipe cook book as well, so families can make some historical recipes at homes and we also have some craft instructions and materials with a pioneer theme."
You can pre register for a kit now and it costs $20. Lockhart says the kits have something for all age groups.
"We tried to have a range of activities for different ages. We have some activities geared towards the kindergarten level and then we have some more advanced hands on activities that would probably be more suitable for pre-teens. One example is our covered wagon mode, we have instructions and materials for kids or parents to put together the model wagon."
The kits cost $20 each by cash or cheque only. Registration will be open from March 22nd until March 30th. This is a first come first serve basis with 50 kits available. Orders will be available for pick-up at three locations: the Oxford County Archives in Woodstock, the Ingersoll Public Library, and the Tillsonburg Public Library.
Contact the Oxford County Archives between March 22 to March 30 during operating hours (Monday to Friday, 10:00am - 4:00pm) to reserve a kit through email at archives@oxfordcounty.ca or by telephone at 519-539-9800 x3070.
