The draft budget for 2025 will be brought to Oxford County Council for final approval on December 11th.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is one step closer to having a budget approved for 2025.
Warden Marcus Ryan says special budget meetings took place on Wednesday November 20th and Monday November 25th.
"Council is getting presentations from staff to understand the budget and ask questions to better understand the budget. December 11th will be when councillors can bring forward their changes to the budget."
Warden Ryan has already put a motion forward to get rid of the development charge exemption for industries next year. If council approves this, it would bring the proposed levy down about four percent.
The draft budget is available online here and Warden Ryan is encouraging people to check it out.
"The budget package that I see to review and approve is the exact same one they can get online. So they can look at it all they want!"
As of right now, the proposed budget is $422 million, which includes a $291 million operating budget and a $131 million capital plan.
The proposed tax levy is $98.8 million. This means the average homeowner would spend an extra $137 a year on the County's portion of their tax bill. If the Warden's motion to eliminate the development charge exemption is approved, that number would drop to a $75 increase.
