Community Futures Oxford was one of the delegations presented at Oxford County council meeting. They requested a grant of over 200 thousand dollars last Wednesday.
OXFORD COUNTY - Future Oxford requested a proposal of $219,000 to Oxford County council.
They were among the delegations featured at last Wednesday's meeting.
A member of the Board of Directors for Future Oxford Bryan Smith says an external transfer of $142,000 would go to the organization.
"That money would go towards helping sustainable entrepreneurs start and grow the kinds of businesses that they're doing themselves and so that they would then include more people in them, that they would market in different ways, that they would then work with maybe other entrepreneurs and both of them go do business together."
He adds Future Oxford is a provincial and federal organization that manages the Future Oxford Legacy Fund. $42,000 would go towards having them deliver a variety of services to those entrepreneurs.
And the remaining $77,000 would be put towards combined materials and contracted services for multiple organizations, including the Future Oxford Committee.
Smith says the grant would do good things for the County.
"I think we are going to see an awful lot of entrepreneurial-spirited people setting up businesses and expanding those businesses, and therefore offering jobs to those very few people in Oxford County who at this point aren't employed or aren't fully employed or maybe are employed in something that less demanding on their talents and less enriching for them than what it is."
He says County council will look at the proposal in the budget process.
