OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council will debate becoming a living wage employer.
Being a living wage employer is a certification that commits an organization to paying both direct employees the living wage rate and also ensuring external contractors pay their employees the living wage rate for the area in which they operate.
A living wage is an hourly rate wage that a person needs to make in order to cover their basic expenses and have a bit extra to participate in community. The wage for Oxford County is $19.50 an hour according to the Ontario Living Wage Network.
Currently, Oxford County has two employee positions being paid under the current living wage rate. The report being presented notes that while the cost of making this adjustment is manageable for the two directly employed positions, but the broader commitment for other positions could be substantial.
