This Wednesday's meeting will see a proposal brought forward to take the first steps in bringing a transit service to the north part of the County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Talks will be held on a possible intercommunity bus service at this week's Oxford County council meeting.
This Wednesday's meeting will see a proposal brought forward to take the first steps in bringing a transit service to the north part of the County.
Warden Larry Martin says the proposal will look at starting the consultation process with the north end of the County.
"It works in well within our goals that were set out a number of years ago as far as hoping to achieve more efficiency and cut down on greenhouse gases. And it's trying to promote people to use more public transit as opposed to using their own personal automobiles."
Warden Martin says the whole process is in the infancy stages at this time.
He says this service would help residents get from one place to another.
"It's going to help support intermodal transportation from area to area, and there are people out there who no longer drive and there are people out there that no longer wish to drive. And if we can have this bus system up and running, it's going to help them get out and about a lot more."
Staff's reports says work with regional partners is underway to strengthen transportation links in the southern and central parts of Oxford County, however there is limited access to transportation connections and services in the north.
Warden Larry Martin says once consultation is underway, they'll have a better idea on when the service can come to northern Oxford.
