Oxford County's 2017 tax policy includes a new multi-residential property class and new tax policy capping tools from the province
OXFORD COUNTY - It's a little delayed but Oxford County Council has finally set a tax policy for 2017.
It features a new multi-residential property class and uses new tax policy capping tools from the province. Director of Corporate Services Lynn Buchner tells Heart FM what is next.
"It's just a matter of now calculating what the taxes are going to be on those properties and then the final bills could be produced. That's it for this year and then we have to revisit again next year."
Buchner explains why the policy has to be updated on a yearly basis.
"We look at what the assessment changes do to our landscape for applying taxes across all the properties within the county. We determine what is the best approach in implementing policy to distribute the levies from the county and the area municipalities across those properties."
The protocol is usually updated in the month of April each year, but the county had to wait to receive new legislative guidelines from the province before the policy could be set in stone.
