Oxford County Welcomes Golf Tournament

The 2014 Canadian Women's Amateur Golf Championship is expected to generate an economic impact of "upwards of a million dollars," according to organizers.

Oxford County council is welcoming the 2014 Canadian Women's Amateur Golf Championship being held July 21 to 25 at Craigowan.

Sharon Rice, the Host Club Tournament Chair appeared at Wednesday night's county council meeting to announce the event.

"It's great to have Oxford County on board," Rice said.

Rice expects the tournament to draw more than a thousand of people to Woodstock, offering an economic impact of "upwards of a million dollars," through the patronage of local hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.

"It will be a spectacular in-road of individuals and spectators coming into the area and
that will provide a huge economic boost into the region."

Craigowan is looking for about 200 volunteers to help out at the tournament and the applications are expected to begin in mid-April.

Rice said to either keep an eye on the Craigowan's website for more information about the tournament.
