Corn survived last week's frost in Oxford County however the same can't be said for soybeans.
Farmers across Oxford County are still assessing the damage from last weeks frost.
Heart FM spoke with Provincial Soybean specialist with the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs Horst Bohner who says the corn is going to be just fine. However Bohner did say some farmers with soybeans got hit pretty hard. "Patchy it really depends on the kind of soil and how developed those plants were, it seems to be mostly those fields that were planted during the first week of May or before that were really impacted by the frost." He adds part of the problem is in some cases only half the plants were taken out and in that case you don't want to plant another full stand in there.
Bohner recommends using a corn planter, 30 inch rows and putting down about 75,000 seeds which is about half the rate for those fields that have only been partially impacted. He adds the good news is you can replant soybeans until mid June.
