Oxford OPP are reminding motorists to keep an eye out for those big yellow things on the road carrying some pretty precious cargo
Oxford OPP are reminding motorists to keep an eye out for those big yellow things on the road carrying some pretty precious cargo.
Already in 2015 we have had 38 reported collisions in Ontario with motorists and school buses and a couple of those crashes have happened right here in Oxford. Constable Lisa Narancsik tells Heart FM they are putting out a reminder to motorists to drive with caution and be respectful of school buses. "The buses are painted a bright yellow for a reason, they are a large motor vehicle, so we have to make sure we exercising caution so kids can get on the bus safely and off the bus safely."
Narancsik says they have received several complaints this year about people passing school buses with the lights flashing and the stop sign activated.
In a couple of those cases students were crossing the road when a car whizzed by. Police are issuing this warning after the most recent collision which involved a school bus and motorcycle next door in Elgin County. Luckily nobody was injured. She adds passing a school bus with the lights activated will get you a fine ranging from $400 to $1000 for a first offense and you will lose demerit points.
